Lunar New Year in Salt Lake City: Come Celebrate With Us

Here at First Utah Bank, we’re excited to join our community in celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year. Also known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, it is an important international celebration of good fortune, bringing people together all over the globe.

On February 17th, we’ll begin ushering in the Year of the Fire Horse—a year that promises to bring energy, confidence, and ambition. The Horse holds the seventh position in the Chinese zodiac’s 12-year cycle, and it’s a powerful symbol of initiative and drive. What makes 2026 particularly special is its pairing with the Fire element. This specific combination only comes around once every 60 years.

“It’s an honor to celebrate this festival with our friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors in the Asian community,” says Gordon Kuan, VP, Multicultural Relationship Manager at First Utah Bank. “The symbol of the Horse inspires opportunity and growth, which are qualities that support an exciting year ahead. Our community partners who make celebrations like this possible are what make Salt Lake City a place where everyone belongs.”

The 9th annual Chinatown Chinese New Year Festival Fireworks Gala will be held on Saturday, February 14th 2026. It’s open to all ages; admission is free, parking is free, and there are raffle prizes throughout the night.

Whether you’re familiar with Lunar New Year traditions or experiencing them for the first time, this community festival is the perfect opportunity to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse with your loved ones and neighbors.
