Sandy has a diverse history starting with the pioneers in the 1860s, becoming a mining boom town in the 1870s, and incorporating as a city in 1893 with an original population of just over 1,000 people. Sandy has grown to almost 100,000 people and has been many things, from a mining town to a quiet agricultural community, a booming suburb of Salt Lake City to the strong economic and activity hub it is today in the southern Salt Lake Valley.
Sandy is also home to more than 32 parks and access to one regional park (Dimple Dell Regional Nature Park).
